Claude vs Copilot in PowerPoint: which builds better brand decks?
By Mahmoud Dakhissi · 4 min read · Updated October 2026
Both AIs now build slides inside PowerPoint, and both follow your company template. Here's how they compare, and the one thing that decides whether either gives you on-brand slides.
Side by side

What actually decides the result
Microsoft says a well-structured template helps Copilot produce on-brand, consistent presentations. Claude works the same way: it reads your slide master and layouts, and builds from them.
So the question isn't only which AI to pick. It's whether your template gives the AI enough to work with. Most company templates don't:
- Too few layouts for the slides teams make every day.
- Placeholders that break when content changes.
- No structure telling the AI which layout suits which message.
Fix the template and either AI produces slides that look like your brand. Leave it, and both produce slides that look generic.
Which should your team use?
Your company already uses Claude
Claude for PowerPoint is the natural fit, especially if your team also works in Excel and Word with Claude.
You're on Microsoft 365 Copilot
Copilot is already in your tools, and Brand Kits let brand managers control the look.
Either way
Invest in the template first. It's the part that decides whether the slides look like your brand.
I design presentation templates built for AI, so your team gets designer-quality slides from a simple prompt. See the Claude-Ready Templates service.
Frequently asked questions
Is Claude or Copilot better for PowerPoint?
Both now build and edit slides inside PowerPoint and both follow your company template. The better choice usually depends on which AI your company already uses. The bigger factor in slide quality is the template each one reads.
Does Copilot use my PowerPoint template?
Yes. Microsoft says Copilot in PowerPoint uses your template's sample slides and layouts, and can apply a Brand Kit with your organisation's fonts, colours and imagery.
Does Claude use my PowerPoint template?
Yes. Claude for PowerPoint reads the open deck's slide master, layouts, fonts and colours, and builds slides that follow them.
Why do AI-generated slides look generic?
Because the AI can only work with what the template gives it. Few layouts, weak placeholders and missing brand rules push any AI toward safe, generic slides.
Do I need a new template to use AI in PowerPoint?
Not always, but most company templates weren't built for AI. A template designed with AI in mind gives far more consistent, on-brand results.
